July 22, 2011 Another Farmer's Market

Well, sorry to be so long in writing. I just have not had much positive to say!!! My good news is that I am invited to do another Coooper-Young Community Farmer's Market Tomorrow, Saturday July 23, 2011 at the First Congo Church on Cooper at Walker!! 8 a to 1 pm. I am exited about it and since I did it once before I am not as apprehensive as I was last time.
An old friend just asked me if I was still writing since he remembers me years ago writing in my journal. I told him about my blog and then I realized it has been awhile so I decided to jot something down quickly!!!
I hope everyone is staying as cool as possible. I have a small above ground 8'x12' pool in my backyard and it is my favorite pastime these days!! I try to do all errands very early in the morning and then retreat into the AC for the duration!!That is another good thing about the Farmer's Market. They open at 8 am and close at 1pm so it is over by the time the heat becomes unbearable.
I have yet to make my first Etsy sale But I did make my first Etsy buy. I purchased a Heartsy Coupon for $15.00 and got $31.00 worth of handmade soap!! The soap arrived today and was very nice!! I am a Happy customer. Now let's make me a Happy Vendor!!!LOL

July 5, 2011 ~ Back to Reality

The Holiday is over and I am glad. I think as I get older I am more dependant on a routine. I was never like this when I was in my early twenties. I lived from one day to the next and I never knew or cared what was happening next or for how long!! Just as long as I was having "fun!"
Now I feel comfortable doing the same things each day. Cooking, cleaning, even doing laundry have a pleasant familiarity!! . Lucky for me there is plenty of that crap to do around here!!LOL
Today my neice Amanda called and asked  me to pick up her two children, my great neice and nephew, Saffron 13 and Kahlil 11, from the firehouse. They are in summer camp at the "Arts Afire" Black Alliance For the Arts, summer drama camp! It was fun to see fhem. I used to see them more when they were younger and needed more supervision. They are beginning to gain their independance and although I am happy for their acheivements I still miss having them around. I never had children of my own so I am very gratefull to be included in any of their activities.
I photographed and listedseveral pairs of earrings today, but I did not get a chance to makeany new ones. Maybe tomorrow!! I am closing now to get some rest and watch a movie on theROKUbox!!!

July 2, 2011 Happy 4th of July

Hello Everyone, How are you this Holiday Weekend!! It is hot again here in Memphis TN and everyone is grillin' and chillin'. Of cxourse Memphis is known for barbeque so this is a favorite holiday around here. I am mostly a vegetarian and salad person, but I have been known to partake!!
My latest adventure in earrings was yesterday when I made some pretty Star of David earrings with swarovski crystal accents. I also made some pretty yellow beaded loop earrings that remind me of summer. The photo shows them with the cucumber blossom in my garden.
The hot weather is a friend to the cucumber famiy but not the tomato. I have very few tomatoes and the plants are just not as lush as they have been in past years. I water every evening .
For some reason our cat ,Calsey, loves the water. She sits by the hose each day waiting for me to turn it on. Then she wades in the water and sits in the middle of the large puddle on a brick dangling her tail in the water!! She will just look at me as if to say, "What are you looking at? Haven't you ever seen a cat in the water ????"
So, enouph of my ramblings, I hope you have a great holiday !!! Check out the etsy store, Love misty714

June 30 , 2011 ~The End of the Month!

Hello Everyone, I like the end of the month. It feels like I have accomplished something if only to survive one more month!! It is soon to be July and that means more heat in Memphis, but also means  the Fourth of July is this weekend!! The Fourth is actually on Monday and so we will be celebrating it this weekend. Here in Memphis TN. The celebration consists of Barbeque Pork and fireworks!! I do not eat alot of meat, but Pork Barbeque is pretty hard to turn down. Now I also do not go in for alot of fireworks either, but my neighbors do not share my disdain for noise and smoke so they will be popping them off all weekend. By Saturday night the fire crackers will escalate into gun fire as every adult male in the vicinity will be be shooting their hand gun into the air just becausse they can get away with it!!!. Now this scares my dogs , Misty and Little Joe, and they become very nervous, almost trembling and shaking with fear and anticipation of something "terrible ", causing me to have to stay by their side and reassure them that everything is alright, even resorting to drugging them down with Benedryl!!
So anyway, that is what I am looking forward to tomorrow and the next day and the day after that!!! !!

Happy Fourth of July!!!!

June 27, 2011~Suprise!!

This is Monday and it is HOT! I decided to stay in the house and work on my earrings. A neighbor brought over a video tape of music from 1980 MTV! We were watching the tape and I was working on my earrings. The phone rang. It was Paul Edelstein ,a local artist who owns a gallery. He wanted to drop by for a visit as he was in the neighborhood. I said "sure."
Paul doesn't drive and I used to work for him as his assistant and driver. He had his new assistant, Kelsey, with him and they arrived and sat down for a chat. Paul asked to see my earrings and Low and Behold he bought 9 pairs!!! I was shocked!! It was a wonderful surprise and just made my day and motivated me to write my blog and to make a whole bunch of earrings.
My neighbor, Margaret, not to be outdone purchased a pair of earrings for herself too, so that was 10 pairs and I never left the house!!! Hurray!

So now I am going in the kitchen to make a batch of my famous strawberry salad!! Have you tried it yet?? Just throw some freshly sliced strawberries on your green salad and serve with blue cheese dressing or vinagrette!!! Enjoy!! Love misty lavender

June 25, 2011~Cooper Young Community Farmer's Market

I did it!! I went to the Cooper-Young Community Farmer's Market this morning at 7:00 AM with my tent and earrings in tow. I thought I was going to be on the asphalt parking lot in the 99 degree heat, but as luck would have it, Mary placed me on Cooper St. in front of the First Congo church under a big shade tree on the grass!! It was actually quite comfortable with a lovely breeze. Ronnie helped me set up the tent at 7:00 am and he returned at 1:00 pm when it was over and helped take the tent down. In between those times I sat in my lawn chair and was able to make about ten pairs of earrings . I managed to sell four pairs at $5.00 each pair!! The rent on the space was $20.00, so I broke even!!!  I did purchase a quart of cherry tomatoes for $2.00 and I ate every one of them! Delicious!!!.
I would recommend the Cooper Young Community Farmer's Market to anyone selling Handmade items. The rent was very reasonable and Mary was very nice, stopping by my booth twice to see if I needed anything! The vegetable market was fairly busy and the fresh produce looked wonderful. I think the shoppers were pleased as well. It was a little too hot to expect a big turn out, so I was happy just to get the experience and the exposure!!.

June 24, 2011 ~ Barbie Shoes

Hello followers,

Today has been good so far. I started out early, as to beat the heat, and went to Home Depot and the Family Dollar. Also stopped by the Post Office to mail out the Hamsa charm earrings that sold on Ebay this week!! Last night I made five pairs of Barbie Shoe Earrings. They turned out great, if I must say so myself!! It makes sense to make earrings from these tiny pumps as they come in pairs, are pretty and colorful, and they are a true fashion statement!

See Photos!!

Tomorrow is Saturday June 25th and I will be selling my earrings at the Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market in the parking lot of The First Congo Church at the corner of Cooper St. and Walker Ave. in Memphis, TN!!! I will be setting up early, 7:15 AM and the sale startsat 8:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM. I hope some of you will come out and see me there. It will be my first vendor experience and I will tell you all about it next time!!!
